| Elche is sandwiched between Alicante and Murcia, this little town is famous for its age-old mystery play, lush groves of date palms, and shoe and sandal-making. Elche had it's original location at L'Alcudia where the bust of the Lady of Elche was found, however the city was moved by the Moors to it's current position and surrounded with groves of palm trees and a coastline of over 9 km's of long Elche beaches. | Unless you visit at the time of the mystery play Misteri d'Elx, the town's Palm Grove El Palmeral holds the most appeal. Stroll through the Huerto del Cura or Priest's Garden to see the Priest's Palm with seven branches sprouting from its trunk. In the grove you will see one of the most famous ladies of Spain, La Dama de Elche. The sculpture donns a very elegant hairstyle and an amazing bust. | |
